90% of brain development happens before the age of 5.

This November,

Whatcom County voters have an opportunity to say YES to Whatcom Kids by funding two important priorities:

  • increasing the availability & affordability of childcare so that all children can thrive

  • and preventing family homelessness & child abuse.

A bipartisan majority of our County Council voted to put Prop 5 on our ballot because this issue affects every corner of Whatcom.

Proposition 5, the Healthy Children's Fund, supports families in every corner of Whatcom County with targeted programs for the most vulnerable, and expansion of high-quality, affordable child care for all parents.

Investing in early childhood means funding proven programs and innovative strategies for children from birth to age 5 that:

  • strengthen families in their role as their child's first teacher,

  • Improve the quality of early learning environments like preschool and child care, and expand access to those programs,

  • and promote prevention and early identification of health problems that can impact learning later on.
